February in Room 11: A Month Full of Learning, Fun, and Kindness!

What an action-packed month February has been in Room 11! Here’s a recap of all the amazing things we did!

Celebrating St. Brigid’s Day

We kicked off February by celebrating St. Brigid’s Day with a traditional activity: making St. Brigid’s crosses. This special day was not only a chance to reflect on St Brigid but also to practice our Gaeilge skills.

Exploring Space Through Drama

In drama, we explored space and our bodies by making different figures/objects in groups! We made castles, trees, bridges, horses and more! Can you guess what we are?

Print Techniques with String and Paint

This month, we also explored printmaking in art class, experimenting with string and paint. Using pieces of string, we created textured prints that were unique and beautiful.

Heat Insulator Experiment

In science, we put our thinking caps on and tested different materials to see which one was the best heat insulator. We tested tinfoil, fabric, cotton, and more. After careful testing, we discovered that tinfoil was the best at keeping the heat in. It was so much fun to see the results and learn more about how insulation works in everyday life.

Exploring Multilingualism

Room 11 is a wonderfully diverse class with so many different languages spoken by our classmates. To celebrate our multilingualism, we explored how to say “I love you” in the different languages spoken in our room. From Romanian to Polish, Lithuanian to Arabic, and even Gaeilge, it was heartwarming to hear “I love you” in so many beautiful languages. Our linguistic adventure included Romanian, Italian, Polish, Lithuanian, Arabic, Kurdish, Estonian, Igbo, and of course, Gaeilge!

Safer Internet Day: A Visit from the Local Guards

On Safer Internet Day, we had a visit from the local Gardaí (police officers), who gave us important tips on staying safe online. They taught us how to be responsible digital citizens and discussed the importance of protecting our privacy and being kind online. It was an eye-opening and educational experience for all of us!

3D Shapes and Structures

In math, we explored 3D shapes in a hands-on way. Using marshmallows and toothpicks, we created our own 3D structures. Afterward, we took to the yard, where we drew 3D nets with chalk, further enhancing our understanding of these shapes.

Random Acts of Kindness

Love was definitely in the air this February, as we completed a series of random acts of kindness. We created a compliments chain, shared appreciation for our teachers, and even had secret helpers, where we did kind things for one another anonymously. It was so heartwarming to see the positive atmosphere in the classroom, and we all felt great spreading kindness!

Planting Seeds with Agri Aware

Thanks to Agri Aware, we had the opportunity to plant seeds! We planted a variety of vegetables, including carrots, lettuce, radishes, and beans. It was exciting to learn about how plants grow and what they need to thrive. We can’t wait to watch our plants grow and hopefully harvest them soon!

Dance Lesson with Alisha

Finally, we had the fantastic privilege of a visit from Alisha in fifth class, who gave us an incredible dance lesson. Alisha showed us some fun moves, and we all got to dance along to the rhythm. It was a wonderful way to end the month, and we want to give a big thank you to Alisha for sharing her passion for dance with us!

Until next time, Room 11!
