Wellbeing in 5th Class
As we settle back into the school routine we are learning to read our bodies and to regulate our emotions. We are developing self-awareness and learning how to change our state with the help of wellbeing tools.
From pupils in Ms.Brennan's class:
Introduction by Janice and Emily
Today we are writing an article about wellbeing and how doing nice things can keep you calm.
First, the Zones of Regulation shows what way you're feeling. For example, the blue zone means you're sad, bored, tired or sick. You could be only one or all at the same time.
Here are a few facts about exercising, yoga and picnics.
- Walks and picnics can keep us calm and are nice and relaxing.
- Yoga makes you relax.
- Body percussion is fun.
- Exercise can make you tired if you do too much but sometimes it keeps you calm.
Doing those things can bring you to the Green Zone.
Zones of Regulation by Adelina
Every morning our teacher (Ms. Brennan) always checks-in asking us what zone we are. What zone are you in now?
Some people from our class are usually in the blue zone.
There are 4 different Zones of Regulation.
If you're in the red maybe go on a walk. If you're in the blue DANCE!! If you're in the green that's great. If you're yellow do a workout.
Wellbeing Tools by Jakub
First we start with the Zones of Regulation, you tell your teacher about the zone you are in and they do something to calm you down. The ‘C’ hand signal. The C stands for Calm Corner. Plushies are for if you’re sad or you don’t feel well. You lay on them or you give them a big squeeze. The Worry Box is for when you are worried about something but you don’t want to tell out loud.
Fidgets by Jacob Li and Damian
Fidgets can be used for many things such as stress, when you feel sick, if you’re sad or being nervous. Some squishies might be soft or even fluffy! There are squish-mallows and pop-its. They come in so many colours and even other shapes. Fidget spinners and magnets might be good for sadness. The conclusion is fidgets are good for stress. Or anything in general!
We also made fidget toys ourselves using a pencil, a pipe cleaner and some beads. We can twist them or move the bead or rub the soft part. They help us to listen.
Board Games by Ariana and Thuy Duong
Our teacher Ms.Brennan lets us play board games every Monday and Friday so we can start our week / end our week in a fun way.
Board games help us to take our mind off things and become happier! We pick our favourite games and play them. We remember to always have fun. We make sure everyone is very happy!
Nature by Aleena
We decided to learn about nature to get a connection with nature. We went on a nature walk and discovered something new! We learned about plants, trees and more!
We saw different types of bugs such as worms, red spiders and earwigs!
We saw a poppy seed pod that is like an instrument when you shaked it.
The hawthorn berries are able to be eaten but it tastes gross.
